Perrie was born in South Shields, Tyne & Wear to mother Debbie and father Alexander Edwards. She also has an older brother, Jonnie. Her dad is a member in an unsigned band, while her mum used to be a singer.
Perrie didn’t have any singing ambitions until auditioning for The X Factor.
She was planning to get a performing arts degree before her audition.
The X Factor (2011)
At the age of 17, Perrie auditioned for The X Factor in Glasgow, Scotland, it being one of the first auditions she ever did. After singing "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morrisette, Louis Walsh and Tulisa Contostavlos both sided up, thinking there was nothing "special" about her. Tulisa even saying "...I like you, but I'm not madly in love with you..." Meanwhile Kelly Rowland said her voice was "Crazy, yo!".
However, she reached bootcamp, but got eliminated.
The judges decided to give her another chance and put her and fellow contestant Jesy Nelson in a four-member girl group called Faux Pas.
The group failed to make it through to the judges' houses. A later decision saw two members from the group, Nelson and Edwards, being called back to form the four-member group "Rhythmix", along with Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall, this sending them through to the judges' houses. The band decided to change their name, due to difficulties with an organization with the same name, to "Little Mix".
On December 11, 2011, Little Mix were announced as the winners, making them the first ever group to win the show.
Following The X Factor, the girls signed a contract with Sony Music subsidiary Syco Music.
Through a live stream via Twitcam they revealed that their debut single will be called "Wings".
Little Mix announced their debut album in September 2012 called DNA, which was released on November 19, 2012, and included UK Top 20 Chart Hits "DNA", "Change Your Life", and "How Ya Doin'?".
In an interview that aired in May 2012, Zayn confirmed having a girlfriend.
On the premiere of One Direction's 3D concert movie "This Is Us" in London, Perrie's mom and brother confirmed that Zayn and Perrie were engaged.
Perrie was also spotted wearing a diamond ring on her ring finger at the event.
